AirBnb: Vermont Cabin
The early weeks of October are a peak time to go leaf peeping around New England, and Mother Nature did not disappoint this year! Not sure where to go? Think about Vermont. I just had a quick fall getaway to West Bolton Vermont, which is located off of Rt. 89 on the way to Burlington.
We started our mini-venture off with a day hike up Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s tallest mountain (and home to Stowe Mountain Resort)! If you’re hiking Mount Mansfield from the bottom of the mountain, start in Underhill State Park. This is where we started, but once you get to the ridgeline, you’ll start mixing with people on the way to the summit who took the gondola up from Stowe Mountain Resort. While I would have more than enjoyed taking the gondola up, I’m glad I sucked it up and did the full hike! There is so much satisfaction in reaching the summit after huffing and puffing up the mountain. Of course, the gondola is a great option to have because there are people with less walking ability who will get to experience being onto of the mountain too! It was an absolute stunner of a day, with perfect temps and visibility. We saw a few other people on our hike up, and at the summit there was a fair amount of people, but not too crowded. If it had been the weekend it would have been much more crowded! And crowded summits not as much fun!
After hour hike we made our way over to our AirBnB: Off the grid cabin in the Green Mountains . This cabin is hidden up in the woods, about a 10 minute walk through the woods from the owners house. It is perched on a small hill, with a view of a clearing that was bright and colorful with the changing leaves. I have been eyeing this cabin for some time now- probably at least two years! I am always sifting through semi-local AirBnBs for quick weekend getaways and I finally pulled the trigger on this one. While it is off the grid, it does have a gas stove (propane), so if you aren’t savvy at building a campfire to cook your dinner over, have no fear! Buuuut who doesn’t like cooking (or burning) marshmallows over a toasty campfire?! The bedroom in this cabin is a bit unique because it is up in the “tower” part of the cabin. You have to climb up a vertical log ladder (it is straight up the wall, not at an angle!) and there is a skylight for some prime stargazing on a clear night.
We only spent one night in the cabin, and took our sweet time going back home to Boston. The leaves were just incredible so taking it slower down back roads was so nice! We also stopped in Woodstock on our way back, which is such a cute quintessential New England town.
